narnia au;

how did you get here? through a wardrobe, or through death, or maybe a portal gone terribly astray. a ring. the roar of a lion. in the bottom of a cup. because you were looking for something, or missing something. no matter how you got there, this is where you belong.

[He reaches for her then. He can't not, when she looks like that. There's so much more he could argue, but it won't matter, so it's yet another pointless question.]

Aye. And I want to hold you every night.

[It isn't his pretty words George is worried about. It's his lands and titles. But he offers what he can, which is just to hold her, so he pulls her tight to his chest.]

And you remember that I meant it when I said I'll stay at your side forever.

[George holds her face in both hands as he kisses her.]

Then the rest is...manageable.

Do you think that would be any easier? To be miles away from you while another man tries to win your heart?

[He'd much rather be scowling over her shoulder the whole time.]

I want to be at your side even when it's...[painful] difficult.

I have choices, majesty. I choose to stay and watch rather than go and wonder.

[Either is painful, but going would be worse.]

[He smiles softly and his finger finds the chain where she wears his ring.]

Touch this, and I'll know you're thinking of me.

[He kisses her forehead. Her smile always makes him feel hopeful.]

Will you need me to keep my distance?

If your lordling objects to having a shadow while he's courting?

[He doesn't think she'd send him away, but court politics can be complicated things, and his role in them is mostly to step aside.]

[George smiles at that, curling his finger under her chin.]

Then I'll be satisfied, my queen.

[George has been out of sorts since they reached Archenland. The routine is different. He no longer sleeps at Lucy's side, and the manners of the court are different. He feels like he has to learn a whole new protocol, and it's not comfortable.

The attention is almost worse, even if it is mostly positive, but eventually that gets easier to handle.

Flirting and anything related has always been sort of a mystery to George. When girls are flirting with him, he mostly can't tell, and that's not something that he's developed since arriving in Calormen. So when the maid talks to him, sends him sweets, tucks a flower behind his ear, he doesn't at first see anything to it.

Not until he sees the look on Lucy's face as the girl scurries off.]

Majesty?

[George's brow furrows, and he takes the flower from behind his ear.]

No? Your majesty...

[He glances down the corridor and leans closer, his voice lower.]

You know you have my heart.

[George feels that complication too. Even more now that they're separated more than usual. Especially with Lucy's lordling flitting about.]

You wouldn't, though.

Is she really being forward?
curlytop: (59)

[personal profile] curlytop 2019-01-24 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh.

[Beyond his general obliviousness, George's definition of "forward" likely doesn't match Lucy's.]

I miss you too.

[He didn't think he would, so much, not when he can still see her every day.]
