[George holds her close to him.]

[George holds her a moment more, kissing her temple firmly. Then he lets her go with a sigh.]

Aye, as soon as I'm in fresh clothes.

[He thinks of it as his room, with as little time as he's spent in his own.]

[She laughs, and presses a kiss to his mouth.]

I will see you soon? Yes?

[She is picking up her dress, her bodice.]

But help me clean, and help me dress.

As soon as I can manage.

[He gets up and finds a cloth to clean her gently before helping her into her clothes.]

And not a second longer.

[And they do separate, and they come back together. Lucy is very clingy, for a girl who is normally so independent, to the point where after the night is through, after everything is settled, after she is curled up in his arms and asleep, she dreams he is gone.

And she wakes up with a jolt, but not a cry, and immediately her hands are on him, like he is a balm against those kinds of wounds.]

[She curls against him.]

I am sorry, but I will most selfishly wake you.

[George wakes almost as soon as she does, pulled awake by her jolt, and he shifts to pull her closer. His voice is rough with sleep.]

[He laughs sleepily and nuzzles into her hair.]

[He did bring her something, but it's an odd time to ask about it.]

[She at least in honest. She woke him because she was afraid he was a dream. He is right there, her body against hers, and he's broad, and she feels safe with him.]

But a present is no mean thing, either.

[George knows why she woke him. He's grateful for the reminder that this is real himself. Nosing along her hairline, he smiles against her skin.]
